Optimally Ensured Interactive Service in Distributed Multimedia Presentation Systems

چکیده
In this paper, we develop a new service to support optimally ensured user interactions with minimum latency in interactive distributed multimedia presentation environments. The novelty of our scheme is to reduce bandwidth requirements of a network in exchange of memory at the client side, because we expect an increase in network load in the next years in comparison to falling memory prices. Utilizing the properties of smoothing algorithms presented in the literature, we introduce the concepts of the interactive river bed and optimal interactive river bed, which guarantee optimal interactive service over the whole playback time of the video stream. Our approach provides optimal service for a given buffer size. We also derive requirements for a minimal buffer size in which we can give the optimal boundaries for an interactive transmission plan. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

An Architecture for Interactive Distributed Multimedia Information Services
In this work, we present an architecture for interactive distributed multimedia information services. The service consists of three basic parts, the clients, the access servers, and the content servers. Clients manage the presentation of the requested multimedia documents, while also ensure the synchronization among various involved media. Special policies for the synchronized presentation of m...
متن کاملNetwork Quality of Service for Multimedia Presentation Generation Systems
Quality of Service (QoS) protocols and architectures play an important role in distributed multimedia systems since multimedia presentations need to be played for the user without stalls, necessitating guaranteed response times. However in the Internet no other QoS than best–effort is given. This report investigates some QoS architectures and protocols designed to overcome these limitations and...
متن کاملMUSIC: An Interactive MUltimedia ServIce Composition Environment for Distributed Systems
The objective of MUSIC is to devise a development environment for the composition of distributed multimedia applications over CORBA platforms, that uses a graphical model to support their specification. A movie-like approach has been adopted to assemble both processing service objects and physical networked devices.
متن کاملA Multi-level Buffering and Feedback Scheme for Distributed Multimedia Presentation Systems
Distributed multimedia presentation systems require flexibility and good quality of service for multimedia data presentations. To ensure flexible and satisfiable presentations of multimedia data, collaborations between servers, network, and clients must be carefully designed to retrieve the data from the disk and transfer the data to the client. In this paper, we investigate a multi-level buffe...
متن کاملAdapting Interactive TV to Meet Multimedia Content Presentation Requirements
This work presents the development of innovative content for a low-cost Interactive Television service designed to adapt in order to cover varying content presentation and interaction requirements: from standard streamed content to new-media artwork. In this process, content, system and user complexities are introduced that need to be resolved before artwork with different requirements may be s...
